I painted this sometime late January 2020, having felt a darkness coming my way that seemed quite impossible to avoid - it actually scared me. My instinct was completely correct - firstly, I underwent an operation in the late-February and during my recovery, the country was placed into lockdown due to Coronavirus; then, a local neighbour had a mental breakdown and became a real menace to the neighbourhood until incarcerated in the Summer. The sheer wall of water in this painting indicated a definite sense of relentless incident - I just didn't know it at the time of completion.
