I painted this exactly one week before the murder; all I could think of was flying high over a landscape and that a dark cloud approached from the left, whilst the loch below appeared to be sarcophagus-shaped. Once again, I couldn’t understand what it was all about, and during the week leading up to the murder, I pulled this work out several times in order to try and understand - to make some sense of - what exactly I’d painted; I couldn’t make any sense of it at all. Two days after the murder and in a very, very shocked, numb and distressed state, I looked at the work again - and only then did I understand it; I’d actually entered the centre of the storm by ‘flying’ through the cloud that encircled the loch, and this was made truly more apparent by what I painted next.
